Final Spring City Walk with SilenceIsViolence this Saturday!
SilenceIsViolence City Walks carry us through the New Orleans cityscape on foot, spreading a message of peace in our city. The City Walks seek to nurture solidarity among all citizens and assert a positive and safe presence on the streets. We honor the strong, distinctive neighborhoods of our city, while we express our unity in seeking a safer New Orleans.
This Spring, the SilenceIsViolence City Walks initiative has evolved into a forum for collaboration with other organizations and neighborhood groups around New Orleans. Through these collaborative City Walks, we have been able to develop partnerships with the Social Aid and Pleasure Club Task Force, the Holy Cross Neighborhood Association, and the City Year/City Heroes, among others.
United for Peace in New Orleans is a recently formed organization that honors victims of violence and advocates peace in our city. This Saturday, May 31, we will walk through the Central City neighborhood together with United for Peace in New Orleans, honoring two victims in particular: Jerrell Jackson and Ronnie Keelen. Please join us for our final walk of the season, and stay afterwards for music by the all-female Pinettes Brass Band!
