City Walk/Peace Walk July 2

Date: Wed, Jul. 01, 2009

July 1, 2009

With the holiday weekend upon us, it's a good time to think about the power of celebration, when undertaken with peace and respect. Peaceful celebrations of our culture and communities strengthen the city, and ultimately our safety. This Thursday evening, join SilenceIsViolence, the Social Aid and Pleasure Club Task Force, and the Dumaine Street Gang Social and Pleasure Club for a peaceful launch to the July 4 holiday. We will "Walk For Peace" through the Treme neighborhood between 6 and 7:30pm, following a circular route that begins and ends at the intersection of North Robertson and Dumaine streets. (Complete route below.)  The Rebirth Brass Band will join us, celebrating the musical and cultural heritage of Treme with a brief performance to close the walk. We thank the NOPD First District Quality of Life team for their support and participation as well.

Watch the SilenceIsViolence website for updates regarding the City Walk/Peace Walk schedule and routes. For more information about the SilenceIsViolence/Social Aid and Pleasure Club Task Force collaboration, call Tamara Jackson at (504) 453-1155 or Kendra Reade at (504) 722-0908.
