Martin Luther King Day Mayoral Forum
Date: Sat, Jan. 16, 2010
“Silence is betrayal.” –Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Join SilenceIsViolence, the Social Aide and Pleasure Club Task Force, and the Stooges Brass Band for a Martin Luther King Day Mayoral Candidates Forum on crime in our communities and specific proposals for making our city safer.
For too many years, New Orleanians have suffered under silent, distant leadership—a mayor with no apparent empathy for the pain, grief, and fear we all live with due to rampant violent crime. The community is stepping forward to work toward sustainable safety in our neighborhoods. We need a mayor who will actively partner with us. We demand respect for every victim of violence; presence and leadership when unacceptable tragedy strikes neighborhoods; and solid, community-based strategies to counter the culture of violence.
