Global Lens

Date: Sat, Mar. 20, 2010

February 18, 2010

This weekend, SilenceIsViolence is proud to join NOCCA, Picture Palace Pictures, and the Global Film Initiative to present GLOBAL LENS. Global Lens is a film series with a vision of bringing communities together and fostering understanding through film. The series was launched in 2003 to support the distribution of unique cinematic works from underserved film communities around the world. New Orleans is one of three communities selected by the Global Film Initiative to present the 2010 Global Lens series.

This Friday evening at 7PM, the Vietnamese film Adrift will launch the local screenings. Adrift focuses on a love triangle based in Hanoi. The film is especially topical as Tet, the Vietnamese New Year, begins on the same day. Directed by Bui Thac Chuyen, in Vietnamese with English subtitles, 2009, 110 minutes.

Next Friday, Global Lens will continue with Masquerades, an Algerian film directed by Lyes Salem about family life in the Algerian countryside and considers the role of women Algeria. The film is in Arabic with English subtitles, and runs 92 minutes, 2009.

Both screenings will take place at NOCCA’s Lupin Hall and are FREE
