SilenceIsViolence Summer programs
Date: Sun, Jul. 17, 2011

SilenceIsViolence is pleased to announce our 2011 Summer Programs. These programs address our mission by engaging young New Orleanians in positive expressions and actions, to counter the culture of violence. This summer, we are continuing our four-year tradition of Music Clinics and adding new Writing Clinics. Both programs, and the accomplishments of our young participants, will be showcased in a final celebration at summer's end--details to come!
All summer programming is free of charge.
Summer Music Clinics: Tuesdays through July 26, 5:30pm-7:30pm, Sound Cafe (2700 Chartres Street). Shamarr Allen once again leads his renowned music-education evenings for young people ages 5-15. Choose your instrument, pick up a music book (music-reading instruction included!), and practice till perfect. Parents and participating kids are invited to join a community dinner during a mid-evening break. Shamarr's Music Clinics are fun, beautiful, and educational--for participants and visitors alike!
Summer Writing Clinics: Thursdays through July 28, 3pm-5pm, Sound Cafe (2700 Chartres Street). Poet and artist Paige Valente invites young people ages 12-18 (younger participants with a focused interest in writing also are welcome) to engage in free-form creative writing exercises and an introduction to poetry. An early dinner is included, and participants can expect to complete a concise body of new works by the end of the workshop series.
Please join us this summer! Spread the word to young people in your neighborhood. Registration is open and takes place on-site. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call (504) 948-0917.
