Summer Solstice Second-Line
Date: Tue, Jun. 19, 2012
SILENCE IS VIOLENCE.
Here are just a few of the activities SilenceIsViolence runs as part of our campaign for peace in New Orleans:
1. Logistical, emotional, and financial support and advocacy for victims of violence and the families of homicide victims.
2. Free weekly Music Clinics, including instruction, community, and mentoring for at-risk youth.
3. Weekly arts-based workshops in local schools, recruiting student to the cause of peace.
4. Community mobilization through memorials, peace walks, and public activities and actions throughout the year.
We also represent the engagement of our city's cultural communities, especially Social Aid and Pleasure Clubs, in efforts for peace and anti-violence.
You can show support for all of this work, and the larger goal of recruiting EVERY citizen in our city to the cause of peace, during a Summer Solstice celebration next Thursday evening, featuring the New Orleans Bayou Steppers Social Aid and Pleasure Club annual second-line parade. The parade will roll from 6PM to 8PM, beginning and ending at Sound Cafe (2700 Chartres Street).
ALL ARE WELCOME TO PARADE! If you are able, please join us as a Peace Agent sponsor for the event: Sponsorship levels are at $75, $150, and $250, and come with special parading status!
