Christine Marcellin Vigil
Date: Thu, Jul. 12, 2012
These are OUR children. Our sons and daughters, our uncles, mothers, brothers and sisters who are dying in the streets of New Orleans.
On April 30, 15-year-old Christine Marcellin's bullet-riddled body was found by a homeless man in New Orleans East. Christine had been missing since the day before, when she left home to visit and console the family of her deceased boyfriend, Brandon Adams, murdered on April 27.
It was Christine's dream to form a group home for girls in need. She was a positive, popular, beloved student at Kipp Believe College Prep. And she was one of our children, one of the children trying to grow up in a city that seems incapable of removing unnatural obstacles to young success and survival.
On May 10, Christine's mother, Tyese Cook, came to the SilenceIsViolence office on the suggestion of the NOPD, requesting grief support and other victim assistance. We have been working with Ms. Cook ever since, trying to help make sense of that which is senseless.
This Friday, SilenceIsViolence will host a prayer vigil in Christine's memory, to be held at the site where her body was found. The vigil will take place on Friday, July 13, 6PM, in the 5000 block of Alcee Fortier Boulevard, New Orleans East.
Please join us in support of Christine's grieving family.
