Once the Katrina anniversary and associated media craze of this week passes,, we will start a new series of City Walks. On Thursday, August 30, we will walk through Uptown into the Black Pearl neighborhood. At the end of Thursday’s walk we will call upon the positive energy of one of the great artists from our city’s history, Mahalia Jackson, when we walk past the Black Pearl church where she sang. The complete route follows:
START: Franky & Johnnie’s Restaurant, 321 Arabella St., 7PM SHARP!Walk away from the river on Arabella to Annunciation; turn LEFT. Follow Annunciation to Calhoun St.; turn RIGHT onto Calhoun, LEFT on Laurel, and RIGHT on Exposition Blvd. to Magazine St. Turn LEFT onto Magazine and proceed across the top of Audubon Park. Turn RIGHT on Walnut and LEFT onto Perrier. Turn RIGHT on Pine, LEFT on Pitt, and LEFT on Millaudon, past Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, to Carver Playground.
