United For Peace events

Date: Mon, Jan. 18, 2010

Dear Friends, We are starting the year with 10 murders in the first 13 days, 2010 is not starting off as hopeful as most thought it would. This means that we have to dig deeper and sacrifice more in order to gain the promise of peace. I am very optimistic about peace because I see that 90% of New Orleanians are doing their part in the Peace movement. We just need to convince the other 10% to stop the killings. We have three events planned that everyone can get involved with in order to help bring peace to New Orleans. 2nd Annual Vigil for Victims of Violence Tues, Jan. 19th 7am-7pm (MLK and S. Claiborne) On the day after Martin Luther King Day, we will be remembering all those New Orleanians lost to violence since the Storm by holding a silent prayer for 1 minute for each person. We will begin at 7am and continue all day until 7pm which will total over 700 minutes of prayer and peace. This is a powerful experience for those who partake in this peace activity for it aligns all your thoughts with the mission of peace. You must be a true soldier of peace to endure all the boredom, pain, scrutiny and joy that 12 hours of prayer takes. All this self-suffering is worth the remembrance of the lost souls of our city. I had so many families thank United for Peace for this action for they knew that every person lost on these streets was on our minds all my days. Please come out for an hour to clear your mind for peace and show the city that All Life is worthy of remembrance and reverence. Endymion Parade at the Superdome Fundraiser Sat. Feb. 13th, 4pm-4am As most of you know we hold weekly fundraisers at the Superdome, this year, we are invited to be "waiters" at the Endymion parade ball. If you choose to volunteer, your work will be minimum (getting tables ice) and you will be able to spend most of the night dancing to the parade and live music. You can also earn great tips (I got $200 last year) and raise a lot of money for United for Peace. Every person who works earns United for Peace $150, our goal is $7500 which means we need 50 people to party for peace. Please call me for more details (908) 328-7956. CeaseFire Public Education- Art for Peace Program starting Feb. 23 In 2010, United for Peace in New Orleans will start a massive public education campaign to stop the shootings and killings in New Orleans . The campaign will consist of art and images created and designed by the youth and teenagers of our city. Posters, signs, bumper stickers, advertisements will be displayed all around the city, in businesses, schools, on the streets and wherever there is a murder in order to bombard the city's shooters with the message: stop the shootings. In the upcoming months, We are taking kids off the corners and streets and giving them a chance to be the artists in this historic campaign. Through art, we will transform our children into peacemakers in their community. Please let me know if you would like to be a part of the art program, we need mentors to be with the kids, you do not need to be an artist to be a part. Thank you all for taking the time to read about what United for Peace in New Orleans is doing. I pray that you all continue to walk in your role as a positive person for peace.
