Protest Police Abuse at the Sixth District Police Station

Date: Sat, Jul. 31, 2010

What: PROTEST of Abuse by Sixth District Police Officers, Press Conference to Follow When: TOMORROW, Tuesday, June 1, 4pm, Press Conference at 5pm Where: Sixth District Police Station, 1930 Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard Urgent: Direct Action Now! Community United for Change has received numerous complaints concerning the Sixth District Police Officers and the manner in which they are handling the citizens and residents of New Orleans. Beatings and evidence tampering are constant complaints. CUC is calling for Direct Action by way of an Informational Picket Line at the Sixth District Police Station on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at 4:00 PM; followed by a 5:00 PM Press Conference. A clear message must be delivered to the new administration that abuse and misuse will not be tolerated by the “boys in blue." The “Culture of Corruption†that has been the earmark of the NOPD must end. The Press Conference will call attention to the abuse and misuse of police authority and will urge residents and citizens to attend the Public Hearing scheduled for Craig Culture Center Thursday June 3rd at 6:00 PM to give the community an opportunity to testify about the abuse and misuse of policing powers. The testimonies will be handed over to the Department of Justice in their investigation of police corruption. The CUC is asking for all social justice advocates, concerned citizens, and organizations that deplore injustice and the dehumanization of the New Orleans people.
